The 1st Workshop on Software Platforms for Systems Biology

The inaugural workshop was held at Caltech in the spring of 2000. The invitation-based meeting involved the original collaborating groups gathered together by Hamid Bolouri, John Doyle and Hiroaki Kitano for the purpose of working towards a common software framework for systems biology. It was at this meeting that the idea of an SBML-like language was first proposed, and where the beginnings of the Systems Biology Workbench (SBW) were born.
