SBW users,
We are in the process of re-submitting a renewal grant to the NIH for SBW
maintenance and extension, and involvement with the SBML community. One
of the issues the reviewers of our first submission had was that they were
not convinced by download numbers alone that SBW had an 'enthusiastic user
base', or that it has significantly impacted biological research. If you,
therefore, are an enthusiastic user of SBW, feel that your own research
has been significantly impacted by the presence of one or more of the
tools in this suite (including JDesigner, Jarnac, RoadRunner, Antimony,
and the various translators), and would be willing to write a letter of
support saying so, we would love to hear from you. Even if you haven't
used our tools in particular, but can vouch for our support of and
involvement in the SBML community, that would also be helpful.
In addition, if there are features you would like to see in future
versions of SBW or one of the particular tools or libraries in the suite,
now would be a great time to make requests. A major goal of the grant is
to incorporate SED-ML into SBW tools, and help with that standard's
development, so requests along those lines would be particularly helpful.
The deadline for the resubmission is in mid-May, so it would be most
helpful to our renewal chances if we received any letters you were able to
send by the 10th. Letters received after that will be welcomed, of
course, but would serve more to make us feel better about ourselves than
they would convince a panel to give us money. As far as format goes,
something dated, with a letterhead from your institution in a PDF would be
ideal, but obviously anything you provide will be appreciated.
Thank you!
Lucian Smith, Frank Bergmann, and Herbert Sauro
