Our thanks to everyone who participated in the survey. The
answers to the original questions are available from the
same URL, with the names of the responders omitted to
protect their privacy:
http://sbml.org/Software/libSBML/Survey_about_Windows_installers%2C_November_2009
A total of 31 people submitted responses. We ran a contest
in conjunction with this survey, and although we originally
stated we would only do that if the survey produced at least
40 responses, we went ahead and ran the contest anyway [*1].
The winner is (drum roll, please) Tommaso Mazza, from Italy!
Tommaso will receive a $25 gift certificate to ShutterFly.com.
Thank you all for your participation.
The SBML Team
[*1] We proceeded as follows. There were 31 responders, of
which 30 included their email addresses. Surveymonkey.com
automatically numbers each survey entry as it is made, so
the email addresses were automatically numbered 1-30. We
asked someone who did not know the list of addresses nor the
purpose of the request to select a number from 1-30 at
random using http://andrew.hedges.name/experiments/random/.
They responded with the number '8'. We looked up the 8th
entry in the surveymonkey list. Between the randomness of
the order in which people responded, and the (hopeful)
randomness of the randomly-chosen random-number generation
web page mentioned above, we hope we had enough randomness
in the scheme to make it fair and bias-free.
