Dear SBML Community,
This is a call for nominations for two SBML Editors to
replace Sven Sahle and Darren Wilkinson beginning in January
2011. Here is the nomination page:
http://sbml.org/Call_for_nominations_for_new_SBML_Editors_in_2011
The nomination deadline is Dec. 10, midnight (PDT).
The SBML Editor election process is described on the
following page:
http://sbml.org/Documents/SBML_Development_Process/Election_of_SBML_Editors
The SBML Editors play a key role in writing and developing
SBML specifications. SBML Editors have to be willing to
invest time and effort into evaluating proposals for
changes, researching the possible impact of those changes,
thinking about how to implement the changes, writing new
text in the SBML specification, dealing with practical
matters of writing, editing, coordinating, tracking changes
to documents, etc. The work level tends to be highly uneven
and unpredictable, but on average it is not overwhelming.
Most interactions between the SBML Editors takes place over
email and chat, with more intense discussions happening
during biannual face-to-face meetings (during HARMONY and
COMBINE meetings) and other in-person meeting
opportunities. The Editors have a dedicated mailing list to
make it easier to hold discussions. There is also an issue
tracking system (hosted by SourceForge) available at
http://sbml.org/issue-tracker, where Editors and the general
public can track problems and requests related to the SBML
specifications.
The length of an SBML Editor's term is 3 years. The current
SBML Editors are (in alphabetical order) Frank Bergmann,
Sven Sahle, James Schaff, Lucian Smith and Darren
Wilkinson, with Darren and Sven being replaced in 2011.
This is the nomination phase of the SBML Editor search. You
may nominate anyone (including yourself) that you believe is
qualified and would act as a good SBML Editor. Someone who
has in the past served as Editor can be elected again if
at least 1 year has passed since they stopped. You may
describe your rationale in the voting form. You may fill out
this form more than once, for nominating multiple
individuals. The SBML Editors and the Chair of the SBML
Editors (Michael Hucka) will gather the results and create a
single list of all unique candidates along with the
rationales for their nominations, then verify with each
individual that they accept the nomination, and finally
issue a call for voting. The voting will take place
electronically using an online ballot form. Everyone's votes
will be confidential and will only be known to the SBML
Editors and the Chair, who will tally the results and verify
that each voter is a member of the SBML Forum. After a
period of two weeks, voting will be stopped, the top nominees
will be publicly announced, and the winners will be installed
as SBML Editors beginning with the new year.
This nomination phase will close on midnight (PDT),
Friday Dec. 10, 2010.
Mike Hucka
