Results of SBO metadata branch survey

Dear SBO users,
We write to feedback to you the results of a recent SBO survey, dealing with the appropriateness of incorporating a new 'metadata' branch into the
ontology. The problems were raised originally at the COMBINE meeting in Edinburgh, 2010 (http://sbml.org/images/c/c5/Juty_combine_SBO_2010-10-07.pdf),
and a call for community input was made to various discussion lists (http://sbml.org/Forums/index.php?t=tree&goto=6554&rid=0). This survey is now
closed; Of the 12 respondents, 10 were in favor of introducing a metadata branch. Relevant comments from the people that voted 'no':
"I believe that it would be more beneficial to outsource that information. The physical location of the terms doesn't impact the usage made of them -
several resources rely on iao, skos and/or dublin core for example, and outsourcing them would keep SBO focused on its own scope."
"I think you need to explain a bit more about this issue. For example, what is a metadata branch? Until I know I have to vote no."
We strongly encourage those with concerns, on this or any SBO related matter, to please raise them on this list. SBO is developed as a community
collaboration, and your opinions, questions and concerns are paramount in this process, and your voices are *always* heard.
Thank you to those that participated in this survey. For those that did not, you will have another opportunity soon!
