CWG: Constraints Working Group 19 Sep '03 14:17

Many of you may recall that in Ft. Lauderdale I said
that I or someone in our group (ie. Jim Schaff) would
start off the Constraints Working Group discussion.
Many of you probably realize I have not done so yet.
So, let me first apologize. I should have done this
many, many moons ago. I simply let it fall off my
radar, and I apologize for that. This is definitely a
case of mea culpa.

Next, let me announce the formation of the Constraints
Working Group, and then say that I will not be leading
it. I believe that a number of us are interested enough
that someone will take it over. In particular, I believe
that Wayne Rindone would make a perfect leader/
moderator, and I believe he is interested in doing so
(note that I'm not committing him to doing so :).
The first order of business should be to get an idea of
who is interested, and what we all feel it should include.
The second order of business should be to put together
a group charter.

Unfortunately, once this email is posted, my involvement
in the Constraints Working Group will end. Indeed, my
future contributions to the SBML working group are
definitely in question. My NRSA fellowship runs out
in about 6 weeks, and my two body problem restricts
me to looking for a position in the New York metropolitan
area (ie. where my wife works). I have an interview lined
up in that area, one that would allow me to continue individual
reseach including working on the SBML, but I do not know
what my chances are of getting it. For now I am continuing
my participation in the DWG, but I do not know what lies
ahead.

I hope that Rashad will continue representing the Virtual
Cell group in the SBML effort, and that Jim Schaff will
contribute his talents and expertise to the Constraints
Working Group.

Best regards,
John
