from the thread it is not clear whether the following command worked for you:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/ --with-matlab=/Applications/MATLAB_R2010b.app/bin/matlab && make && make install
The error message that you detailed when running the configure command before came was due to the matlab path not being specified.
If you prefer to use CMake, please send me your cmakecache.txt file as it will help narrow down the issue.
